Chinese Drama: 'Ming Yang Hua Gu' / 名扬花鼓 - Part 4

Hi everyone

I've now reached the Episode 23 of 'Ming Yang Hua Gu'.

Ming Yang is left speechless after Hua Gu replied that she is willing to marry his older brother Ming Zhu Er.

Mrs Ming tries to convince her son Ming Zhu Er to change his decision because his father will be angry with him.

But Ming Zhu Er replies that he doesn't care what his  father thinks because he is not his real child.
Mr Ming gets up angrily just as Ming Zhu Er calls Hua Gu to leave with him.
Mr Ming shouts to Ming Zhu Er to get lost and to never think about returning to this house again as soon as he steps out of the door.

Hua Gu and Ming Yang stare at each other before she leaves.

Me:  This love triangle is starting to get serious and things are getting complicated.

Hua Gu definitely doesn't love Ming Zhu Er, I'm sure she said that she will marry him just to get back at Ming Yang.

Ming Zhu Er is going to get hurt when Hua Gu tells him the truth.  Firstly he won't be able to return to his home and secondly he will feel bitter and jealous of Ming Yang.

Ming Yang's mother tells her husband that Ming Zhu Er must truly love Hua Gu for him to challenge his father's authority to marry her.  However, Mr Ming refuses to forgive Ming Zhu Er if he doesn't admit that he has done wrong.

On the other hand Mrs Ming is relieved that Ming Zhu Er has found someone he loves so that he can live happily with her.
Mrs Ming doesn't really care that Hua Gu is poor because she just wishes for her son's happiness.

She also tells Ming Yang that she hopes that he also wishes for Zhu Er & Hua Gu's happiness together.  Upon hearing this Ming Yang remains quiet as he doesn't dare to tell his mother that he also loves Hua Gu.

His mother asks him why he doesn't reply and begs him to support his brother and Hua Gu's marriage.  Seeing his mother's teary eyes, Ming Yang has no choice but to nod silently, despite his broken heart.

Ming Zhu Er takes Hua Gu to stay in a hostel.

Hua Gu is trying to tell him that he doesn't need to do all this but Ming Zhu Er tells her that he will make sure that she can live a happy life even though he has lost his title as a Ming.

Hua Gu is exasperated by Ming Zhu Er's words as she doesn't share the same feelings as him.  She yawns out loud and acts sleepy so that Ming Zhu Er would leave her to rest.

After Ming Zhu Er leaves, Hua Gu tells herself that she should not have lost her cool and said that she would marry him....because now Ming Zhu Er has already started planning their life together.

In the room next door, Ming Zhu Er is not feeling well as his alternate personality 'Lie Mo' is trying to take over again.

(Me: This is a big spoiler but I think this is the 1st time that I am mentioning that Ming Zhu Er is in fact the assassin Lie Mo.  He is somehow possessed by the evil personality of Lie Mo and will go on a killing spree with his blood sucking knife when Lie Mo takes control over him completely).
Ming Zhu Er fights back the presence of Lie Mo and tells himself that he has to do his best to allow Hua Gu to live happily as his wife and decides to go out to buy a nice dress for Hua Gu.

Hua Gu starts to go over the pros and cons of marrying Ming Zhu Er and asks herself if she really gave up on Ming Yang.

Just as Hua Gu prepares to escape from the hostel, someone knocks on the door.

Thinking that it is probably Ming Zhu Er, Hua Gu decides that she must tell him the truth.

But as she opens the door, it is Ming Yang who appears in front of her.

Ming Zhu Er joins them and asks Ming Yang if it their father who told him to look for them here.

Ming Yang replies that it is the King who would like to meet Hua Gu.

At the King's place, Hua Gu testifies that the purple stone necklace belongs to Qing Er.  The King asks her if she has thought clearly before giving her answer.  Hua Gu confirms that she is certain about it.

Hua Gu lies that Qing Er has been wearing the necklace since she was a child.  Qing Er tells her that she has the impression that someone gave her the necklace to wear.  Hua Gu tells her that she borrowed the necklace once to try it out then returned it back to her that's why she got that impression.

Ming Yang tells Hua Gu to be honest about this and to take the situation seriously.  Hua Gu gets annoyed and tells him that in his eyes she is just a liar but this time she is being honest.

Ming Yang then asks Hua Gu: How come you told Qing Er that the necklace might belong to someone else when you knew that the owner was Qing Er?'

Hua Gu wittily replies back: 'At that time I thought that there might be chance for me to be the Princess.'
Ming Yang then questions her why in this case didn't she let them know earlier that she was the other girl called Hua Gu when she knew that they were looking for her.

Hua Gu responds that she didn't want them to know her real identity because then she would not have been able to continue acting as Yun Yun.  Hua Gu cunnigly adds that tricking a few persons to believe that she is Yun Yun is easy compared to tricking a large group of people including the King, the royalties and the population believe that she is the Princess.  She also tells Ming Yang that she would not dare to trick so many people because she might get death punishment for it.

Qing Er tells Hua Gu to stop calling herself a liar because she knows that all these years Hua Gu has been working hard to make money to buy medicine for her.
Hua Gu tells Qing Er that she must not doubt that she is the Princess anymore because she can finally have a family who will cherish her.

Qing Er finally accepts that she is the Princess and thanks Hua Gu.
Qing Er requests the King to allow Hua Gu to accompany her during her trip to the palace.
The King agrees but Hua Gu refuses by saying that there are people she does not want to meet at the palace.  Qing Er doesn't understand who she is talking about.  Hua Gu thinks to herself: 'I won't be able to bear seeing my parents meeting Qing Er as their daughter.'
Qing Er tells Hua Gu that if she owes people money there she will return them the money or if she caused trouble to people there, she will apologize on her behalf.
But Hua Gu still rejects her invitation.

Qing Er then asks Ming Yang to convince Hua Gu to accompany them to the palace.

Ming Yang asks Hua Gu to accompany them so that they can take care of her.

The King also personally requests Hua Gu to come with them.

Hua Gu finally accepts to accompany them to the Capital on the condition that she does not have to enter the palace.

The King agrees on her conditions as he does not like to oblige people.

Later Ming Zhu Er comes to meet them to congratulate Qing Er for finding out that she is the Princess.  However, upon hearing that Hua Gu is accompanying them to the Capital, Ming Zhu Er disagrees because he is preparing to marry Hua Gu.  Qing Er then tells Hua Gu that she understands that she won't be able to come with her since she is going to marry.  All flustered, Hua Gu tells Qing Er that she will accompany her since she has already agreed to do so and that there is no need to rush with the marriage.

Ming Zhu Er finally accepts to let Hua Gu accompany Qing Er to the Capital as long as it makes her happy.  Qing Er then invites Ming Zhu Er to accompany them to the palace as well.

During Qing Er's alone time she writes down her thoughts and you get to know that despite eating the red gingseng that Hua Gu gave her, she is still suffering from her illness and believes that she cannot be cured.
Qing Er also noticed that Ming Yang is more and more distant like he has a lot of worries going on in his head as if he would have preferred that she were not the Princess.
Qing Er writes down that she will forever love Ming Yang secretly no matter if she is the princess or not.
Me:  Qing Er's story is quite tragic... she is a kindhearted character as well but her fate is a really sad one...at least she was able to grow up happily with Ming Yang.

Next in the Episode 24:

Hua Gu spends time with Qing Er before preparing to leave for the Capital.

Qing Er tells Hua Gu that she is really glad that Ming Zhu Er and her are getting together.
She also thinks that they complement each other with their different personalities unlike if she were with Ming Yang who has a similar personality to her and usually bickers with her all day.

Qing Er adds that Ming Yang usually doesn't like to drink but that night after he had caused Hua Gu to lose face by revealing her real identity, Ming Yang drank a lot and was feeling extremely guilty for hurting Hua Gu.  Qing Er also tells Hua Gu that the next day, Ming Yang was going to apologize to Hua Gu.  Hua Gu then realises that was the day she old Ming Yang that she was going to marry Ming Zhu Er.

Ming Yang later meets his brother and asks him if he really likes Hua Gu.  Ming Zhu Er replies that he really loves her and needs her.Ming Yang then asks his brother if he still has that bad habit of his.
Ming Zhu Er asks him what about it.  Ming Yang tells him to get rid of his bad habit whereby he does not return home for 3 nights without informing anyone.  (Me: That's probably when he turns into Lie Mo and assassins people during the night...)

Ming Yang tells Ming Zhu Er to keep Hua Gu company and not to make her feel lonely because although she might look strong on the outside, inside she is very vulnerable.
Ming Zhu Er tells Ming Yang that he knows how Hua Gu feels since that night where she kept crying and fell asleep leaning on his shoulder.

Ming Yang feels very sorry about it and replies that it's all his fault for making her cry.  Ming Zhu Er realizes that Ming Yang really cares for Hua Gu.

Ming Yang tells his brother to treasure Hua Gu in the future.

Then we move on to Hua Gu who is sitting at the bench next to the Wishing tree, wondering what Ming Yang is thinking when he asked her to accompany them to the Capital.

(By the way the music theme for Hua Gu & Ming Yang moments is really sweet and melancholic, it's actually the instrumental background music for the ending song of the drama.

Unfortunately I could not find the instrumental flute version of the 'Ming Yang Hua Gu' theme song.  But it's a bit similar to the music of the ending theme song.  You can check it out by clicking on the following link:  Romantic Ending Theme song for 'Ming Yang Hua Gu'

Ming Yang is back to his room wondering if the person that Hua Gu loves is really his brother.

Meanwhile, Hua Gu is asking herself if Ming Yang really likes her.

According to Hua Gu, if he really likes her then he would have said something when Ming Zhu Er was taking her away from him.

Speaking to herself, Hua Gu dares Ming Yang to come meet her to tell her his feelings.

Dang!! Ming Yang really comes walking by XD
Aaawww what's gonna happen now !? >_<

Hua Gu looks momentarily stunned and touched to see Ming Yang in front of her.

But Ming Yang remembers his mother telling him to support Ming Zhu Er's marriage with Hua Gu.

(Aigoo don't tell me he is going to reject Hua Gu!!  This is too harsh to yourself and to Hua Gu!  But what to do this is a drama, so I'll have to bear with it >_<)

Oh my gosh, Ming Yang just called Hua Gu, sister-in-law!!
He even congratulates her because she will soon be his sister-in-law... O_O
The consternation and annoyance on Hua Gu's face is undeniable...
She asks him if he came out so late at night just to congratulate her.
Ming Yang replies that he came to make a wish.

Unfortunately the episode ends here.  I think that half of the episode was cut...dunno what happens after that.

We move on to the Episode 25:

We are in the Palace, the prince is playing a board game with the Emperor.
The emperor tells him that he has to get rid of the insignificant piece on the board.
Returning back to his apartments, the prince has a nightmare in which he is unmasked as being the impostor prince.  He then wakes up in sweat worried that his fate will be the same as in his dream.

Back to Ming Yang & company, they are setting off on their journey to the Capital.
Hua Gu and Qing Er travel in the horse pulled carriage while the guards ensure their protection on horseback.  Qing Er is feeling unwell but hides it from Hua Gu.

A while later, Ming Yang stops the carriage to let the girls get down to rest.

He gives a hand to Qing Er to get down the carriage but when it is Hua Gu's turn, he just stares at her motionless.

Hua Gu gets down on her own without Ming Yang's help.

It's still very awkward between Ming Yang & Hua Gu after he called her his sister-in-law the night before.

The group of travelers stop to stay at a hostel at night.
Hua Gu cannot sleep and gets up to take a walk. Outside she meets Ming Yang who tells her to go back inside for her own safety.
Hua Gu replies sarcastically that his job is to ensure Qing Er's safety so he doesn't need to concern himself for her safety.

Hua Gu goes to the horse shed to chit chat with her horse. She tells it that she still likes Ming Yang although she has been trying to forget about him.

But the horse is not paying attention to her.  Hua Gu notices a frog near the horse and starts to chase after it for taking her horse's attention away from her.

Hua Gu ends up chasing the frog to Ming Yang's hotel room.  Hua Gu notices the turtle & rabbit which she had folded for Ming Yang on his desk and thinks happily that she might still have a little spot in his heart.

Hua Gu tries to capture the frog again but knocks down the tea pot causing quite a mess on Ming Yang's desk.

Ming Yang comes back looking for the culprit
for the noise to find Hua Gu coming out of his room.

He then notices the mess on the table and realizes that Hua Gu saw the turtle & rabbit on his desk.  Qing Er & Ming Zhu Er rush into the room worried that something happened and ask Hua Gu what's the matter.
Hua Gu tells them that she was chasing a frog and carelessly knocked down quite a few objects.
Qing Er exclaims: That little frog made such a mess on your (Ming Yang's) table.

Ming Yang replies that it's alright, he can just wipe off the mess while taking hold of the handkerchief folded into a turtle and rabbit to wipe the ink and tea which were soaking the table.
Hua Gu feels bad as Ming Yang used the handkerchief to wipe off the mess.

However as soon as they leave Ming Yang's room the latter can't help but stare at his ruined handkerchiefs in dismay.

The next morning, Qing Er is not feeling well at all, her face is all white and she has a high fever.
Hua Gu and Ming Yang are both very worried about Qing Er.

Ming Zhu Er feels bitter and jealous of being left out as Ming Yang and Hua Gu stick so close to each other while taking care of Qing Er.

Qing Er later wakes up after remembering when she was in the theatrical troupe performing the Hua Gu song along with Jing Hua Gu under the heavy rain.
Hua Gu later gives the medicinal herbs which she has boiled to Qing Er.  She even tests the medicine for poison before giving it to Qing Er.However, we can then here a voice in the background saying that the poison that they have placed in the herbs cannot be detected so easily and as soon as she drinks the poison, she will die.  (I'm like O_O Noooooo!! Don't do this to Qing Er!)

But just as Qing Er's lips were going to touch the bowl of medicine, Ming Yang rushes into the room shouting to Qing Er not to drink it.  Stunned, Qing Er drops the bowl and asks Ming Yang what's wrong.
Ming Yang replies that the medicine is poisoned.  Hua Gu replies that this is not possible as she even tested the medicine for poison which was negative.  Ming Yang tells them that this poison is not easily detected and that he found out only after seeing lots of insects lying dead next to the spilled medicine near the pot of  herbs.

Ming Yang goes to buy the correct medicine and Hua Gu prepares if for Qing Er to drink.
Hua Gu sings the Hua Gu song to help Qing Er sleep.
Ming Yang passes by Qing Er's room and hears Hua Gu sing the song
Hua Gu stands up and notices Ming Yang at the door.  They stare at each other for a few minutes then Ming Yang leaves precipitately.
(Me: They both love each other but won't admit it...)
